LiveOffice Managed Messaging Service utilizes rules-based filtering, which is the most prevalent form of content filtering for electronic messages. Content filtering consists of creating or capturing a set of patterns to filter against and then using a content filtering engine to detect those patterns found within the archived email.
Rules-based filtering is used to monitor both inbound and outbound email and attachments as well as instant messages. LiveOffice's managed service analyzes inbound and outbound email and IM for potentially non-compliant words and phrases via its customizable search lexicon. If an email is found to be non-compliant, it can be trapped and forwarded to a compliance officer for review.
Rules-based filtering also makes search and retrieval quick and easy for clients when they want to retrieve data from the archive. Since all electronic communication is fully indexed across LiveOffice's secure storage infrastructure, clients have rapid access to data based on various criteria – including sender, size, date, time, keywords, phrases, attachment type and destination. The filter searches for phrases by combining a list of words and also looks for exact word matches in the phrases.
The rules-based filtering process is transparent to the client and very useful for filtering data for compliance, e-discovery or policy management purposes.
