Mobile Access

Many of today’s workers depend on mobility in order to remain productive. While smartphones (BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Phone 7) are the norm, tablet PCs (e.g., iPad) are also becoming more prevalent. These trends mean that any applications workers access in the office should also be available via their smartphones and tablet PCs.

When evaluating archiving solutions, there are several factors that should be considered when it comes to ensuring mobile archive access for users. If an organization has mobile workers, be sure to ask potential archiving vendors the following questions:

  • Can users natively access archived messages and attachments from their smartphone and/or tablet PC?
  • Are SMS messages archived and searchable for discovery and compliance purposes?
  • Can the archive act as a continuity solution for users if the primary mail system (on-premise or cloud-based) goes down?

A good archiving vendor will be able to answer “yes” to all these questions. While archiving solutions are largely deployed to meet legal and compliance requirements, they can also help boost the productivity of today’s mobile workforce.
