Worldwide spam volumes have increased from 31 billion messages per day in late 2005 to 61 billion messages per day in late 2006 – an increase of almost 100%. Now in 2007, LiveOffice is blocking 1.5 million spam messages per day, which accounts for 65-73% of all emails sent to LiveOffice accounts.
This number applies across all LiveOffice email accounts and indications are that all system users have experienced an increase in the number of spam messages in their inboxes simply because spammers are sending more emails than ever before.
To offer some perspective, for every 1 spam message a user receives, LiveOffice is blocking anywhere from 7 to 9 messages from ever reaching the inbox.
Advanced Spam Sensors
The LiveOffice anti-spam and anti-virus system differs from our competition by using an advanced global approach to detect and block email traffic coming from illegitimate sources. As part of this method, information is collected by the IronMail engine on all email senders worldwide through more than 7,000 sensors located in 48 countries. This global approach is the only one able to identify some of the newest breeds of spam that are otherwise evading detection by traditional keyword filtering methods.
Through its partnership with Secure Computing, LiveOffice uses this global system combined with connections management and several patented behavioral and content analysis tools to deliver very high spam detection results with few false positives. LiveOffice’s managed service targets all types of spam and addresses the recent arrival of fraudulent spam variants which comprise an even greater threat, including these 2 types of spam that are on the rise: phishing (attempts to solicit personal information from the recipient by mimicking a legitimate company) and spoofing (tricking mail filters into allowing a spam message through by hiding the domain of the spammer or the spam’s origination point, typically by hijacking the domains of well-known businesses).
